Assessment Resources

There are many test developers, schools, and curriculum publishers offering free and non-free standardized assessments, skills tests, and placement tests. Placement tests are generally designed to help you place your student in a suitable grade or purchase appropriate course materials, but they can also be used to discover how much your student already knows, identify skills your student hasn't mastered, or verify that your student is ready to advance to the next level. This is a short list of websites offering free printable, downloadable, or online placement tests. Nationally normed standardized test providers.

  • Alpha Omega Diagnostic Tests and Curriculum
    Access free LIFEPAC Diagnostic Tests, Horizons Math Readiness Evaluations, Monarch Placement Tests (with an account), and Switched-On Schoolhouse Placement Tests (for a fee) at Alpha Omega Publications.
  • Florida Standards Assessments Practice Tests
    Includes sample computer-based and paper-based practice tests for Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) in ELA Writing (Grades 4-10), ELA Reading (Grades 3-10), Mathematics (Grades 3-8), and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments.
  • K12 Language Arts/English Placement Tests
    Language Arts/English Placement Assessments are offered for all grades through middle school and consists of separate reading, language, and writing assessments.
  • K12 Math Placement Tests
    The placement test is made up of 16 assessments covering Kindergarten math through Algebra.
  • Kindergarten Readiness Test
    This online kindergarten readiness test by KinderIQ will help you evaluate your student's physical, language, social and cognitive development. You'll receive highlighted focus areas based upon your responses and tips at the end of the assessment.
  • Math Mammoth Placement Tests
    Printable placement tests and answer keys for grades 1–7 to help you determine your student's math level.
  • Math-U-See Placement Testing
    Math-U-See offers general and secondary math assessments based on their curriculum.
  • SAT Test Prep
    Visit Khan Academy for free full-length online and paper-based SAT practice tests. Separate math, reading, and writing practice is also available.
  • Sonlight Placement Tests
    Visit Sonlight for links to free reading and language arts assessments. Links are provided to free Math-U-See, Singapore Math, Saxon Math, Horizons Math, and RightStart Math assessments.
  • STAAR Released Test Questions
    Look here for released STARR test forms and answer keys for grades 3 through 8 and high school. Grades 3 through 8 tests cover math, reading, writing, science, social studies. High school level tests include Algebra, English, Biology, and US History.
  • Texas Performance Standards Project
    Look here for performance standards, curricula, and assessments for grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
  • The Online Test Page
    100% Free Practice Tests and Drills. Includes numerous SAT, vocabulary, mathematics options.
  • The Phonetic Zoo Placement Test
    This downloadable spelling test offered by the Institute for Excellence in Writing is designed to help parents with students ages 9 and older determine their spelling level.
